Biography

Photo of Martinsburg-Berkeley County Public Library

The mission of the Martinsburg-Berkeley County Public Libraries is to improve the quality of life for all citizens of Berkeley County by offering services that are indispensable to all, and which provide a community where popular materials are abundant, reading is valued and learning never ends.

There have been many changes to the Martinsburg-Berkeley County Library since opening in 1926. But the commitment of the Martinsburg Library Commission, the staff members and volunteers remains unchanged. From hand-stamped cards to wireless Internet, from a collection of 4000 books to one with more than 115,000 books, 3500 audio materials, and 215 newspaper and magazine titles, the library has adapted to continue to meet the needs of the community. There will always be a need for free access to information, to programs, to recreational materials, and modern technology. The Martinsburg-Berkeley County Library system is dedicated to ensuring that all citizens have that access.
