Book club for friends who care deeply about the future of Downtown Martinsburg. Discussing Your City Is Sick, by Jeff Seigler. If you’re interested in learning more about how you can play a part in Martinsburg’s revitalization efforts, then this book club is for you!

Jeff Siegler argues that unhealthy urban environments negatively impact residents' physical, mental, and economic well-being, proposing that cities should be treated like living organisms that need care. The book critiques traditional economic development, advocating for a shift towards investing in existing places, fostering walkability, preserving heritage, and building community pride through incremental, everyday actions to create places people want to live in. It challenges communities to move beyond apathy and focus on quality of life to attract and retain residents

"OF THEE I SING' - A LOVE LETTER TO AMERICA BLOCKBUSTER SPRING CONCERT

Come enjoy a thoughtful, reflective and entertaining look at our nation’s identity, culture, landscape and faith in commemoration of our 250th birthday. The 80-minute musical tribute is accompanied by piano, percussion, organ and violin.

The concert is free for ages 25 and under (no ticket needed, just come!). For ages 26 and up, tickets are $18 and can be purchased on our website TheValleyChorale.org. Tickets at the door are $20. No need for a babysitter, we love tots and kids.

This year, thanks to the support of The City of Martinsburg, and Proctor & Gamble, we are launching our Friends of Main Street program, aimed at getting folks together, with the common goal of supporting our downtown businesses.

The plan is simple:
We’ll rotate downtown restaurants to hang out at every last Thursday of the month.

We’ll have incentives like the Shop Small-Win Big program all-year-long to help support our retail businesses.

Friends will get their Friend of Main Street “campaign button” and special sticker to show their community pride.

As an added perk for friends, will provide exclusive Main Street gear that showcases just how much you love Downtown Martinsburg.

Discounted Happy Hour specials at our Fridays at 5 concerts for friends… yes you read that correctly— Fridays at 5 is back for a special DJ Happy Hour before the live music begins at 6pm.

Most importantly, we’ll give people more ways to engage and get more involved with Main Street.

We feel that, for a $25 donation, this is an excellent value and a great way to show your support for Main Street Martinsburg and our organizations efforts to revitalize Downtown Martinsburg.

Anthony Stoika is a percussionist and educator whose primary instruments are drum set and vibraphone. He can be heard performing regularly around the DMV both as a leader and as a side person to some of the area's most in demand musicians.

In addition to performing, Anthony has been a private music teacher and the percussion instructor for the Washington High School Marching Band (Charles Town WV) where he was awarded the Pete Durand Excellence in Teaching Award. Anthony also recently released his debut ep. entitled "Duets With Friends Vol.1" featuring the guitarist, Peter Heiss.

Ian Livingston is a jazz trumpeter from Shepherdstown, WV, currently residing in the New Jersey/NYC area. Ian plays jazz heavily influenced by the bebop music of the 1940's and 50's, his favorite musicians being Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie and Fats Navarro. Despite this omnipresent influence, streaks of his more modern heroes (Freddie Hubbard, Nicholas Payton, John Swana, Jeremy Pelt) are also very prevalent throughout his playing. Ian has studied under incredible musicians including John Swana and Jeremy Pelt and has performed in NYC, WV, and the DMV area.
